Imposing a fee to enter in Venice promotes the cultural demise not only of Venice, but of Europe: Venice is no longer considered a city but merely a money-making machine.

The ridicolous entrance fee of five euros, there is no maximum limit planned for the number of daily tourists. 

 

It won't be applied during the busiest tourist periods. 

 

The residents of Veneto, that  are the 70 percent of the daily touristic flow, are exempted from paying the tax.

 

According to current estimates, the revenue from the entrance fees is just as high as the costs of its application.

 

This is the approach of a surveillance state: Every person is screened and the Venetians must report all of their visitors. This type of restriction of privacy and freedom of movement is typical of authoritarian regimes. Furthermore, it is not known where the sensitive data that has been collected ultimately ends up.

We defend Venice as a city of freedom: Venice belongs to the Venetians, they are its wealth, they are the ones who keep Venice alive.

Venice is not a thematic park but must remain the open city that it has always been throughout its history - without any entrance fee.
